The card register at Wal-Marts flagship store in New York City will be sold out by Thanksgiving and is expected to fall by as much as 20% by Christmas, according to a company spokeswoman.
The spokeswoman, Kristin Boesch, declined to provide further details, including the number of cards and their purchase costs.
The card machine will be replaced with a new model, she said.
Wal-mart spokeswoman Andrea Seguin said the card register has been in operation since the 1970s, and that it is expected that the new machines will replace the old ones in December.
